We are excited to announce our keynote conversation between Kelly Hayes and upEND’s cofounder Maya Pendleton!

At our 2024 Convening “In Solidarity”, we’re expanding our strategy to connect the family policing abolition movement to other struggles for our collective liberation. From prison abolition to a free Palestine, we will draw connections between movements to deepen our political education and build solidarity between organizers and activists. Together, we can create radically safer communities that support children and families.

Kelly Hayes is a Menominee author, organizer, movement educator and photographer. She is the host of Truthout‘s podcast Movement Memos and co-author of the book Let This Radicalize You, with Mariame Kaba. Kelly is also the creator of Organizing My Thoughts, a weekly newsletter about politics and justice work. She is also the founder of the Doing Justice Collaborative, a new political education initiative. Kelly has led countless workshops over the years and has trained thousands of people around the country in direct action tactics. Kelly has also served as a grassroots strategist, offering advice and analysis to groups across Chicago and the United States.

Kelly’s written work can be found in Truthout, Teen Vogue, Bustle, The Huffington Post, Yes! Magazine, Pacific Standard, The Appeal, and numerous anthologies. Her movement photography is featured in the “Freedom and Resistance” exhibit of the DuSable Museum of African American History.
