Module Six addresses the intentional failure of the family policing system’s reform efforts. These reforms are used by the family policing system as a mirage to reassure the public it is aware of its challenges and is responding to these challenges. Yet despite no evidence of success or meaningful change over decades, these reforms continue due to the myth of benevolence and indispensability the family policing system has created.

Ultimately, these reforms are designed to fail in order to maintain the oppression the family policing system was designed to produce. This module highlights recent reforms that have been and continue to be embraced by family policing systems even though they have been proven to not work, and in some cases, to result in increased racial disparities.
